Weak visibility counting in simple polygons

چکیده
For a simple polygon P of size n, we define weak visibility counting problem (WVCP) as finding the number of visible segments of P from a query line segment pq. We present different algorithms to compute WVCP in sub-linear time. In our first algorithm, we spend O(n) time to preprocess the polygon and build a data structure of size O(n), so that we can optimally answer WVCP in O(log n) time. Then, we reduce the preprocessing costs to O(n ) time and space at the expense of more query time of O(log n). We also obtain a trade-off between preprocessing and query time costs. Finally, we propose an approximation method to reduce the preprocessing costs to O(n) time and space and O(n ) query time.

Single-Point Visibility Constraint Minimum Link Paths in Simple Polygons
We address the following problem: Given a simple polygon $P$ with $n$ vertices and two points $s$ and $t$ inside it, find a minimum link path between them such that a given target point $q$ is visible from at least one point on the path. The method is based on partitioning a portion of $P$ into a number of faces of equal link distance from a source point. This partitioning is essentially a shor...
متن کاملDynamic algorithms for visibility polygons
We devise dynamic algorithms for the following (weak) visibility polygon computation problems: • Maintaining visibility polygon of a fixed point located interior to simple polygon amid vertex insertions and deletions to simple polygon. • Answering visibility polygon query corresponding to any point located exterior to simple polygon amid vertex insertions and deletions to simple polygon. • Main...
متن کاملVisibility Graphs of Staircase Polygons and the Weak Bruhat Order, I: from Visibility Graphs to Maximal Chains
The recognition problem for visibility graphs of simple polygons is not known to be in NP, nor is it known to be NP-hard. It is, however, known to be in PSPACE. Further, every such visibility graph can be dismantled as a sequence of visibility graphs of convex fans. Any nondegenerate configuration of n points can be associated with a maximal chain in the weak Bruhat order of the symmetric group...

In this paper we explore some novel aspects of visibility for stationary and moving points inside a simple polygon P . We provide a mechanism for expressing the visibility polygon from a point as the disjoint union of logarithmically many canonical pieces using a quadratic-space data structure. This allows us to report visibility polygons in time proportional to their size, but without the cubi...
متن کاملWeak visibility queries of line segments in simple polygons and polygonal domains
In this paper we consider the problem of computing the weak visibility polygon of any query line segment pq (or WVP(pq)) inside a given polygon P . Our first non-trivial algorithm runs in simple polygons and needs O(n log n) time and O(n) space in the preprocessing phase to report WVP(pq) of any query line segment pq in time O(log n + |WVP(pq)|). We also give an algorithm to compute the weak vi...
